The scene was set at the Crown Poker Room in Melbourne, Australia as the 2016 Aussie Millions Poker Championship went off with a rather large turnout on the 13th of January. A number of Aussie veterans were also present as dealers for the first starting flights which were planned for the first event: Event #1 $1, 150 No Limit Hold’em. The likes of Joel Williams who’s known as the Aussie Millions Tournament Director, Paul Khoury and of course Reality TV star and English Cricketer, Freddie Flintoff were ready to announce the official shuffle.
For the first six forty-minute levels, registration commenced for the flight as it was open during that time where it saw a whopping 160 players registering thus cementing the event with a guaranteed $1 million prize! Australian Poker favorite managed to last a disappointing one hand and although 2005 World Series of Poker Event champion Joe Hachem registered late, however, still he managed to turn a straight into a full house!Hachem was joined by the likes of Xuan Liu, Jarred Graham, Tony Dunst, Scott Davies and Jarred Graham all of whom hold various prestigious poker titles.
Forty-minutes into the event only 26 players remained with Brent De Jong firmly leading the pack. The Australian players led fiercely during the late rounds which consisted of stacking up aces against the kings of Tho Nguyen. As this is a play-off event, players who didn’t make it from previous rounds were able to enter for a spot in the remaining flights. The Championship continued until Thursday the 14th where event #2 $2,500 H.OR.S.E began at 12:10 p.m. where numerous players struck it lucky through the live satellites at the prestigious Crown Poker Room.Currently, Phachara Wongwichit is leading with Kevin Blackwood following in second place, he needs to change the game if he intends on winning.
